Creative Europe brings together actions that support Europe’s cultural and creative sectors – all those whose activities are based on cultural values or artistic and other individual or collective creative expressions. Activities may include the development, creation, production, dissemination and preservation of goods and services containing cultural, artistic or other creative expressions, as well as education or management related to these activities.

Sectors include, but are not limited to, architecture, archives, libraries and museums, arts and crafts, audiovisual (including film, television, video games and multimedia), tangible and intangible cultural heritage, design (including fashion design), festivals, music, literature, performing arts (including theatre and dance), books and publishing, radio and visual arts.

The general objectives of the programme are:

  • to protect, develop and promote Europe’s cultural and linguistic diversity and heritage;
  • to increase the competitiveness and economic potential of the cultural and linguistic heritage and of the cultural and linguistic creative sectors, in particular the audiovisual sector.

Grants will be awarded to support the distribution of non-national films, under the MEDIA sub-programme.

The Films on the Move action shall encourage and support the wider distribution of recent non-national European films by encouraging sales agents and theatrical distributors in particular to invest in promotion and adequate distribution of non- national European films.

Expected Results:

  • Development of pan-European theatrical and/or online distribution strategies for non-national European films.
  • Increased investment in theatrical and/or online promotion and distribution of non-national European films in view of expanding audience reach.
  • Develop links between the production and distribution sector thus improving the competitive position of non-national European films on a global market
  • Description of the activities to be funded under the call for proposals:

The activities to be funded are campaigns for the pan-European theatrical and/or online distribution of eligible European films, coordinated by the sales agent of the film.

Applications should present adequate strategies to ensure more sustainable and more environmentally-respectful industry and to ensure gender balance, inclusion, diversity and representativeness.

The applicant must be a European sales agent a company acting as an intermediary for the producer and specialising in the commercial exploitation of the film by marketing and licensing it to distributors or other buyers for foreign countries.

Applicants must be registered in one of the countries participating in the MEDIA sub-programme.

The total funding amounts to €16 million.

  • A maximum of 25% of the total budget will be allocated to films with a production budget exceeding €10 million.

There is no limit to the project budget.

The funding rate will be up to 90% of eligible costs.

There are two application periods in 2022, as follows:

  • 15 March 2022 and
  • 5 July 2022.
